That's why I created a folder where I keep links to AAC that's called "Watched Threads"... that is, threads that I intend to visit and maintain every once in a while, but not too often.
Hey... maybe this could be a good suggestion to add to this site? A feature called "Bookmarked Threads" or something similar?
@WBahn, what do you think?
The old vB software let you list the posts you had "thanked" and so that is what I used that utility for. Since that went away, I now have no reasonable way to go back to the posts I had flagged.

I definitely would like to see a bookmark feature. But I think the best we can do is pass along the suggestion to XenForo and see where they put it into their queue of things to do.

You can "watch" a thread without posting to it. There's a button at the top of the page. That's effectively the same as bookmarking as it adds to the default "watched threads" folder.

Thanks, I already knew about that, and in fact I use it regularly. My question was about the possibility of bookmarking threads without having to watch them.

That does me absolutely no good for a couple of reasons. It is seldom an entire thread that I want to bookmark, but rather specific posts within that thread. Knowing that I have "bookmarked" a thread often tells me little because often those jewel posts are not directly related to the thread title. And if I have to search through dozens or hundreds of posts within a thread trying to see if one of the posts happens to turn out to be one of the ones I wanted to be able to refer back to, then it might as well be lost. But even more so, every thread I reply to automatically gets added to the Watched Threads list (which is not only the default behavior, but the way I want it). I currently have 227 PAGES of watched threads or nearly 5000 threads. I have perhaps a dozen posts that I want to be able to refer to. To the best of my knowledge, all of the ones that I bookmarked using the "Thanks" option in vB are in that list, but so what?

What I could do is maintain a blog entry with links to posts that I want to refer back to, but that is a pain and enough of a hurdle that it will never be done regularly.

A really nice -- and I believe easily implemented -- utility would be to add a "Bookmark" button next to the "Like" button and when you click it a dialog pops up giving you the option to enter a brief description of why you are bookmarking it.

Then in your profile you have a list of all your bookmarked posts with field giving the name of the thread, the thread starter, the post writer, the date of the post, the date you bookmarked it, and the description you entered (if any). There could also be a checkbox next to each one allowing you to make it public so that anyone visiting your profile can see the public list of posts you have bookmarked, and why.

@nerdegutta, I suppose you'll be fishing from that? Post pics of the fish please. :)
I'm not that good fisher.

One time my father and I was out in a 8 foot boat,
,
like this.

We had the same equipment and did the same moves.
He caught 3 cods, and I didn't catch anything...

But if I fish, and if I get a fish, I'll document it properly. - Like that's going to happen.:D

Prepare yourselves for a photo dump....

Let's start with some pets and animals. Left to right: A robin in a blizzard here in VT; Some kind of bird (I think I used to know what they are but I cannot remember) in the same blizzard; my cat Artemus (Hopefully this is posted right-side up); My parakeet Reuben wearing his "hat" (actually a bell that hung in his cage); Another of my parakeets Willow taking flight from the Christmas tree; A visitor on one of the main roads that goes by my apartment.

Some weather. Left to right: View from my front yard after an ice storm a few years ago; A view down from the hill behind my house (after the ice storm); Some bare tree branches after the ice storm; Pine tree branches behind my house (yep, still after the ice storm).

Sorry, had to split this up because apparently AAC only allows 10 images per post. Three more weather ones: View from my front yard one evening (after the storm); Telephone pole and wires (after the storm); View from Thetford Hill (from the front steps of my Alma Mater, Thetford Academy).

Some technology: My first Tesla coil (All photos).
