Pi = 3.1415926...

Pie - a round pastry with a filling.

 

I know all that. I know what Pi & Pie is.....it's the "Day" part that I do not get

 

pi = 3.1415926...

pi day is 3/14/15 9:26

 

I guess the rest of the world will have to celebrate some weeks later, on 31/4/15 at 9:26 instead . Dang, no we can't; until someone adds an extra day to the month.

I can't get, "alt 227" to display. How do you type that in?

 

Hold the Alt key down. On the numeric keypad type "2", "2", "7" while continuing to hold the Alt key down. Then release the Alt key

I like that site, we were just discussing how often some familiar version of pi (31415) shows up in a reasonable number of digits of pi.

31415 shows up 10 times in the first million decimal places (including the first one which this tool does not count).

The first 10 digits of pi do not repeat in those 2 billion decimal places. The first 9 digits do, after 1,660,042,75 places.

Those occurrence rates are not surprising, 10^10 > 2X10^9 .

I think I read somewhere that NASA uses pi to 15 or 16 decimal places. I would have expected more, but then my math skills are weak.
