This thread is started to discuss the purpose and use of photos and other images on AAC.

I have many photos I could usefully refer to again in later answers, but I do not see any in 'Studiot's photos' or in the gallery.

This could be a really useful feature of AAC if properly developed.

I have posted hundreds of .jpgs and .gifs here, and nothing shows up in my Gallery. The only way I can get back to them is "My Content".

Well I was looking (unsuccessfully) for some photos of the inside and construction of a power supply I know a posted a few years ago.

I had to rephotograph the thing today for someone else.

My engineering brain says this is grossly inefficient.

I would happily reorganise my photos so that I could reuse them if I had the facility.

I agree, I would like to easily be able to reuse photos in different threads without having to re-upload them. Other forums that I have been on require that you upload a photo to your user folder before you can use it in a post. This also allows you to use it any time you need to in any post.

It would be really great if you guys could swing something like that.

If you use other image hosting sites to link the image to the post its not going to be saved unless you use attachments?I use imgur to host photos its just drag&drop.

Many, including myself, do not like links to external stores like this and often do not bother with such posts.
You will find that threads where this is done are less well followed.

It is better if the site has control of the images that may disappear any time in the future.

I don't just post the link ,I use image function so that image is visible.

I must be missing something. Apparently, there is a gallery section that members can set up. You can have it as a private gallery, public gallery or elect not to have a gallery. Nerdegutte and many others have set up personal, publicly viewable galleries.

Maybe the answer is as simple as studiot setting up his gallery?

John

Edit: Maybe I see the problem. In the old software, as I recall, your posted images were automatically saved in a personal album. In Xenforo, you can set up your own album and do it prospectively, but doing it retrospectively is impossible. You cannot simply move images from the AAC posting to your album. You would need to upload anew from your PC or somehow dig out the AAC address and upload from there. I don't have a test account t use, so I can't test what happens with new images.

Does one need to upload to his gallery, then post on AAC, or will all images I post be automatically saved in my gallery now that it is set up?

Edit2: upload test image

Edit3:
The dial indicator image was uploaded from my PC and appears in the thread, but not in my album. I then uploaded to my album, opened it, copied the URL (AAC) and tried using the insert image dialog. The result was a failed image.

Maybe some instructions for using the gallery as an image resource are needed?

This is a test

OK, I finally did it.

Go Gallery
My Gallery
Create new album
Upload photo
Save

To Post photo:
First open your album
Open photo
Right click, select "copy image location"
Goto thread
paste location

Maybe there is an easier way??

@jrap
I get a permission error with that link and couldn't navigate to anything meaningful from it.

If we can work through this, then what you describe is like it used to be, whihc was easy and useful.

I went ahead and bookmarked that link. I reuse post upload attachments, as well as the albums, a lot. What can I say, I like to draw schematics and show pictures of projects.
