I made a remote light detector using a Blue 5 mm 30 deg LED with a 9V battery using only a 10Meg feedback on an LM358 with a cathode to Vin- and anode grounded. It had enough sensitivity and peak gain to detect a remote ceiling light being blocked to drive another 5 mm blue LED when unblocked. The current was built in current-limiting.
The next step is to use a UVC LED to detect a UV sub-flame from an oxi-hydrogen torch.
