One of the older Westinghouse styles.

Actually considering it's age, I suspect a retrofit is in order.
For this you would need to come up with a schematic, the original, or a reverse-engineered one would be needed, or at least help.

So maxheadroom. The old relay works when you hold the on button and the crane works. If I remove the old unit and put a new one on the crane will not work. Why?

Well its the exact same model and company. Wired 2 different ones and rewired the old one back 3 times all with same results

Well If I were in that position, It would be a case of at least doing some reverse engineering, at least at the basic level, this is the only way you are going to know,
i.e. aware of how the original circuit works.
Otherwise it is almost impossible to impart any degree of help without knowing some of the basic circuitry.

@Kevin79 I saw quite a few circuit diagrams on the net for overhead cranes. Most are very similar to each other with differences like control voltages and other minor things. Maybe you could start with one of those and modify it to your crane. Then take it from there.

Is the contactor in the thermal image photo the one that is actuated when the on button is pressed ? If so then this is the one we are interested in.

BTW, if the new contactor you used as a replacement is a same/similar type that uses thermal O/L's, the contactor is usually supplied without them and they are obtained separately in order to get the right sizing.
i.e. current rating = 1.5x motor FLA.

Motor-Starters are available with a wide variety of Auxiliary-Switch-Configurations,
are You sure that You have obtained an identical Aux-Switch-Configuration ?

Also check the Coil-Voltage,
a 277-Volt Coil will do nothing with 24-Volts applied to it.

The Coils and Aux-Switches are easily replaceable to suit different applications.

I did order separately and made sure to match fla
