Sorry to hear that Yaakov
As a kid around 9 I cut my right pointing finger nail in half right down the middle. Cut all the way up to the first knuckle and could see the bone inside. Can't put stitches in a finger nail.
When I was 12, i went through mine witu a sewing machine. That was first time I exoerienced real shock - i fealt detached from everything and it was like my finger with thread sticjing through it was not mine. Was a strange experience. It is good to be young, no scars.

Trip to the ER, bleeding stopped. It hurts. I will probably have an ugly fingertip permanently.
Dude! Sorry about your injury! Count your blessings though! If it happened in Texas you could've bled out while the hospital's "ethics committee" weighed the blue bead to cost of treatment ratio! And that's not much of an exaggeration! Cripes! I'd like to say a lot more on that but some would call it politics, so ok.

I must say, it's a psychological setback to an extent I wouldn't have expected. Oh well.
I can relate to that! As our lifelong homes, we get used to our bodies. Even little unplanned changes can be jarring! Source: I'm an inveterate biker. Two wheels and no protection racks up the "mementos" over the decades!

Hope you feel better soon!

I don't get the reference? I was talking about Texas' infamous Advanced Directives Act, I only wish it was fiction:(
So you prefer that the hospital only has to get a court injunction to be able to withdraw all treatment (including feeding tubes and hydration IVs) from a patient without any input from the family or give them any time at all to arrange transfer to a facility willing to give the treatment? That is, after all, when the situation was before the act was passed. What the act did was give the patient's family the right to be involved in the ethics board's review process, give them ten days to find a suitable facility willing to give treatment, as well as the right to request a extension from a judge to have more time to find such a facility. Also, only the treatment that is considered futile can be withdrawn, things such as food and water can continue. You don't believe the family should have these rights?

FYI, under the act (unlike prior procedures) cost cannot be taken into account. It doesn't matter whether you are receiving indigent care or are a billionaire (though I imagine that might well play a role in finding another facility willing to provide the treatment).

For scale, it appears that care is withdrawn under the act only a couple times a year on average.

Ah yeah! The family and the PATIENT'S advanced directives ONLY! Not the imperial wizards of the hospital's death panel or the courts!

Futile is negotiable! It's all about the money! Check the stats!

Dude! I wouldn't doubt it for a second! So they've instituted a 10 day stay? How magnanimous.

Yeah! Right! Check the facts man! "involved"? Wiggly words sheesh!

Sorry dude! I've seen this brand of murder first hand! I believe you are sincere in your belief of benevolent intent but you are wrong!

I apologize for starting a political discussion! I'm touchy about little things like human rights and all.
