Here is a scan from back when men were men and opamps were puny. The booster stage is non-inverting, so the + and - designations at the opamp input are correct for the overall circuit. The technique is shown for an inverting amplifier, but it works just as well in a non-inverting configuration.
Note: For better long-term reliability, the external transistors should be rated for at least twice the desired output current.
