I was a grand juror for 3 months in MA, and naturally, we had cases of burglary and breaking and entering.

Burglary requires an intent to commit a felony. Not apparent here.

Breaking and entering requires taking same action to enter a building that is not open to the public. Thus if a door is wide open and you do not need to open it, no crime. But if it is unlocked, but closed, it is B&E. So here it would hinge (pun intended) on whether the door was wide open or just unlocked.
They have plenty of 'real' criminals to prosecute in Florida. Like people inside houses that won't leave even when the cops show up called squatters.

Fine him $200 and move on.

I doubt we would have seen this case in the grand jury. I would likely be charged as a misdemeanor if at all. Might depend on whether it was dark or not. Seriously. B&E in the daytime is a misdemeanor and B&E at night is a felony here, if I remember correctly.

At one time we had a pear tree in the yard. It started ripening and we harvested a few early ripened fruits and left for the weekend. Came home and the tree was BARE. They took every pear on the tree!

Let me guess ... you never found out who "They" were ...

I knew who it was. It was the old lady next door who had been doing it for several years before we moved in and made the old "shack" livable. She was already pissed at us because our rabbits kept getting out and chewing their way through the collard greens plants in her garden. And they kept getting out because a pack of dogs kept tearing our rabbit cages up to get at the rabbits and killing them. It's always something...
