OBD-II Speed Overtaking Recorder

Hello everyone, I have a final year project (Master's degree) and I want to create a device that will be connected to a car to record speeding violations. The goal is to collect the car's speed via the OBD port and its GPS position using a GPS sensor attached to the device. All of this data would be saved to a memory card. Later, the device would be connected to a computer, and the data would be processed by software to verify speeding violations.

I would like to know if this is feasible, what components I would need, and what advice you have.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

There is already a device, CarRx, which I already have installed on my vehicle which does exactly that and much more, and which has a very nice phone app.
It provides a lot of information gathered from OBD2, shows the GPS-derived vehicle location in almost real time, and one can actually define a geofencing perimeter.
My understanding is that the product has been on the market for close to 10 years.

Thank you for your feedback, but the goal of my university project is to design and test a prototype, and I'm wondering if I could achieve this with an ESP32 and a GPS sensor, or other components to make it more realistic.

Thank you, that's encouraging. Do you have any suggestions for equipment (specifications) and any advice that might be helpful, given that the goal is to store the data locally on an SD card or other device? Will the data retrieved with my device be reliable? Any advice or tips are welcome, as I'm a bit lost since I'm a computer scientist and I've done some Arduino work before.

Thank you in advance for your help.

that is for Masters degree project? may i ask what university is that and who approved that? l don't find this appropriate even by a long shot... This would be a very low hanging fruit for highschool students. moreover every search engine will give you everything on a silver platter. and why do you need to interface to the vehicle at all? there is something called GPS. then one can use that device on wheel barrow or a paddle boat.
