Totally agree. The liquid phase of a solid???
Even a, "freezer burn" makes more sense.
I can stretch my imagination far enough to visualize desiccation as having similar results to heat damage, but a liquid solid? Can't quite make that stretch.

Indeed! -- Said phenomena deserves a better moniker! IMO --be it quite contrary to that of 'The Bard'-- there is pleee-unnn-ty to be appreciated and apprehended in a name!

Yes, but when one studies it, it is quickly realized that a material with Dissociative Identity Disorder in structure and physical properties needs a name to match.
