I do most of my web surfing with a Windows 7 laptop that I conceder expendable. Expendable in that I can wipe the hard drive and restore it from a Ghost back up and be back in business within about 1/2 hour. It has been hit with ransom ware from clicking on a link from Google while searching for some particular piece of info. Not porn or game related usually some technical subject. When it happens I don't get weird, I simply shut it down and restore the HD from my backup basically thumbing my nose at the jerks that think they may have another victim.

NoMoreRansom is a great project, but unfortunately their decryption tools are old and they can't handle modern cerber version 3-4 or odin ransomwares. Not so long time ago I was struggling with this nasty Thor ransomware which infected my mates laptop, and I was lucky that shadow copies was on and with a help of ShadowExplorer I managed to recover almost all files.
So I'd advice everyone to make backups of all important data to offline Hard Drive, enable shadow copies service in Windows and install Malwarebytes Antiransomware or Bitdefender CryptoVaccine.
