I have a product at the moment that I've been selling in small batches to companies as a prototype, and I'd like to start offering it on a website, one of the PCB assembly companies I visited today said I definitely need a CE certification before I can start selling it. Obviously this is very expensive for me, and I don't know how many I will sell. I tried looking for sparkfun products, and I can't directly see if they are FCC or CE certified. However, the Arduino is CE certified. Could you guys perhaps clarify this part of the industry, and maybe redirect me to some sources that can explain?

This might be a good place to start. I believe you only need a CE mark when selling into the EU.
