I'm crafting a precision 1amp source.

I need some why to calibrate it. I don't have a fluke, any recommendations?
I need a meter that comes with certs. It doesn't need all the bells and whistles.
A DVM preferred, portability, but not a must.

Ideas?

 

Get a 1Ω 3W ±0.1% resistor and a quality DMM.
1A through a 1Ω resistor would give you 1V across the resistor.

 

If it needs to be NIST traceable, reliable and stable between calibrations, the meter won't be cheap for that level of long-term accuracy. You can send any meter (or any measurement device including bulb thermometers) to get a cert of measurements and uncertainties if you define a few points you want the data on. The key is stability and repeatability after the calibration for weeks, months, years after. I've got flukes that were officially calibrated decades ago that still meet accuracy requirements without adjustments.
YMMV with something cheap.

There are companies that will rent measurement tools by the day/week/month if you only need a precision meter for a short time. Google "electronic test instruments rentals"
