Would someone recommend an MP3 editor?

All I need is a volume equalizer (one that included sub folders would be great as that is how I arranged my tunes). Some basic editing tools (cut & paste, fade in and out) would also be nice.

Freeware is awesome but I don't mind tossing a few bucks at this either.

I'd recommend Audacity (http://audacityteam.org/). It's free and cross-platform, and I think it would be powerful enough to do what you want.

I just used it recently to reduce the volume and stretch the length of a music track that I wanted to put in a computer game, and it worked quite well for that.

Warning: Opening MP3s isn't a problem, but if you want to be able to save them as well you'll need LAME, which brings up MP3 licensing issues. I just export files as OGG instead.
