My Moto E does not display my name i.e. caller ID disabled. Followed Google instructions to solve this, no luck. TRied Rogers my ISP, then Motorola, no luck. Any ideas?
So, a couple of things—Caller ID (CID, or CLID for Calling Line Identification) is not the same as CNAM (Caller Name).
Caller ID is the calling number, and it is sent as part of the signaling for the call. On the other hand, CNAM is an alphanumeric label associated with the phone number. In the US, it is stored in a set of databases and the carrier terminating the call (receiving it) looks it up in one of them based on the phone number provided by CID.
In Canada, much like CID, CNAM is sent as part of the signaling. While in the US it is possible for originating equipment to pass a CID to the carrier who can pass it on—or not—the CNAM for that CID must be in the databases maintained by the carrier. But, in Canada, it is possible for the originator of the call to pass CNAM as well.
But this is for PBXs, not individual mobile phones. As far as I know, it is not possible to influence CNAM from your phone. You can certainly send a code to the provider not to pass CID, but that’s not the phone doing it, it’s just the phone sending configuration requests.
So, while I am prepared to be corrected concerning Canadian mobile phones, since I am not in Canada and don’t use them, as far as I can tell and believe, your phone has nothing to do with passing or not passing CNAM to the terminating carrier—except that if you turn off CID by sending the right code to the provider, CNAM will also be turned off (or say “RESTRICTED” or “BLOCKED”, or “TAKE OFF, EH?” or something that isn’t your CNAM.
It is almost certainly Rogers that needs to fix it, and it is very, very unlikely it has anything to do with your phone.
