Actually we grow a bit of sugar beet:

8.5 million metric tonnes a year!
Maybe that's why our teeth are so bad.
No thats the price of a monarchy and royal families. The early pharoes in egypt that married brother and sister were incredibly unhealthy. Many were crippled and walked with canes before they hit 10. So when you have a 2000 year old society that lived most of it marrying royalty to royalty they were all related to a certain degree. Lots of cousins marrying cousins, etc... Its not so much a problem now but up untill the 1800's it was. I love EU history and study it quite a bit.
