I have received 5 of these from rs components. They came inserted in a black foam. When I test the led diode drop while in the foam it shows approx 1v. When I test it in a solderless bread board it shows no diode drop and it is not working to trigger a triac
On the same breadboard I have a diode bridge which shows the correct diode drops.
Has anybody any idea what is wrong here? I have sent this question to rs as well. It really makes no sense at all.
I have another method for triggering a triac but it only works for sensitive gate triacs. I was hoping the moc3023 would work for all triacs.

 

How are you testing the diode?
Do you have the right series resistor?
