Hi all

I was reading this old post about compilers, Mikroe C V X 16 by Microchip and it rang a few bells.

https://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/threads/mplab-x-vs-mikro-c-thoughts.124241/

I can see both sides of this argument but personally I don't like code hidden in libraries like Mikroe provides without it being accessable. This might be my age, I started when there were no IDE's and all you got was a compiler / Linker and the rest was down to you, including writing your own processor definiton file and the Makefile. Now it seems to have gone over towards what I call Lego building where a lot of people just want to assemble a collection of pre written code without getting into the depths of understanding the actual processor, maybe this is down to time and shorter product life cycles.

What are the current thoughs now we are many years ahead of this old discussion, which direction do people think it has moved today ?

all the best Roy
