My impression on how thousands of transistors work together to
form a working curcuit. I think you would need to have resistance
and capacitance.Since resistance create heat, most of the resistance,
could be outside the component. The conduit to connect the transistors
using internal components would not be able to conduct heat.
Now we have to put a 1000 transistors in a small space. Now I have to put
my 1000 transistors into appox 1"x1" space.I have to find a medium to do it
and not short every thing out. What about a very thin film ,which is an insulator and print
the curcuit on the film.(no heat). The film would have to be super, super thin.
How about some math help, how thin can you go. We will be pressing this film together
because we have a lot transistors put into curcuits. Every heard of natural resistance,
reactance. You want find this on google. Copyrighted while I rest brain.

I am staying away from I word, working this through my exposed
mind. Will accept guildance. Don't think I have ever seen this attemped step by step. Students in
your left hand you have 5 transistors,in your right hand you a have computer chip with with
hundreds of transistors. I trying to explain, ask some questions about space, try to picture
from is inside the chip. No one liners ,explain to me step by step how your computer chip is put together
without using brand names, must be your own work.

I have no source, I am letting members think about what make sense.
In your position I don't want to play hot and cold with your key chain.
I am going with the film theory for now and how each piece get connected.
I want to see if some students want to connect the dots.I can envision
the men and women in white lab coats, using electron microscopes
veiwing the curcuits on film, since every thing don't have to be on
at once, less resistance, less heat.Maybe the film could be folded over,
and press together making a complete curcuit Inside the chip.

Thank you. I have enough trouble keeping track of my key-chain as it is.

The clean-room suits are not all white. Some of them are a light blue, and some are orange!

There is no "film." There is a big glass disk. (Actually, there are many many big glass disks, but let's look at one at a time.) It gets cleaned, masked, impregnated with stuff, masked again, etc. Lots of nasty chemicals are used in tightly controlled quantities.

Then it gets sliced up. Then very very thin wires get soldered to it. Next comes the gigantic plastic package we are all familiar with.

Robots do most of the work.

Starting from scratch wouldn't be pretty.

The first Texas Instruments IC, a Germanium transistor with biasing resistors, doesn't look like it was made in a clean room. Circa 1958

The "slab" is 1/16" x 7/16"

Bonding wires to raw chip stock is what I do. It's not soldering, but it does seem like voodoo sometimes. They use ultrasonics and heat (not even close melting points) to fuse gold and/or aluminum.

Come to think of it, there is a soldering technique, but I don't have much to do with it. They flip the chip upside down, and solder it with indium solder bumps. Indium has a very low melting point.

Bill, speaks old english when he wants.I never know ,he a busy man
I 'm always happy to see him on a post,to check out my old english.
I have to get back on tract, I'm thinging more about time than space
now,do they still lift grounds to turn transistors off,I'm trying to express
this right. Switching transistors on and off as needed,in multiple
curcuits. I'm thinking that all curcuit are not on unless needed ,result
less resistance and less heat. My goal is have linear mental picture in
time and space from computer log on to A.C.C. log on so members and
guest can get brief C.S.I. look at the process, like when hardware and
sofeware curcuit are working at the sametime. When working separate
,another way would be at the same time view the computer screens as
if you were turning loose leaf pages with brief thoughts with each page
turned.Try to get my thought before you shoot it down.Maybe the guys
would jump in,it don't have to be a rush thing. It will pick up or die.
Thanks

If you could get an exposed CPU die, and a thermal imaging camera, it would be interesting to see which areas consume power while doing different operations. The temperature gradient would be slight, but the modern imagers are pretty good with discriminating very slight temperature differences.

If a lot members like you with bits of information,we can see with
common sense what is going on.In stead x-raying the chip we go for
what is being display. Like I said (real quick) picture that linear view
of( log on computer) to( log on A.C. C.) all along this linear curcuit
look on-Picture each screen as a loose leaf sheet of paper, where
a page can be moved around. So if we don't have members and guest
that can look at each screen and say this or that is going on.
As you image this high speed linear curcuit, think time & speed.(No links)
I have been asking questions, you can ask questions.
Some one could start with page #1 - log on hardrive #1-b -log on software,
Block diagrams, and thumbnails programs ,is each a piece of seperate software
like google ,google earth, internet explorer image turning a page to go to
google earth, turn page go to home-type in A.C.C..If some member could make
a thumbnail index page that would help make this work. That way every view would have
a place.Close your eyes an view this linear path with easy to explain pages.

0Just turned computer on,power supply working, pressed internet explorer.
Home page appeared ,selected A.C.C. favorite. Now have blue screen
has appeared-screen name.(On hold) Waiting for short explaintation
about hardware & software in use where.no binary simple terms, please
no jokes.Create thumbnail #-1. Example-A.C.C.-software-power supply
hard ware.use your createtive mind to make this work for non-experts.Moderators please monitor.A sample log on screen would help,so you get a quick view with arrows (harddrive-software or both.(down load to hardware -that mean a software) so lets picture that conduit of files going to hardware back to your thumbnail and page(screen)
