Hi,

Can anyone please suggest me a low cost 8 bit microcontroller with the following features?

1. Minimum 20 General Purpose I/O lines
2. 3.3V supply.
3. One Serial Channel.

My goal is to set up a parallel interface for printer. This microcontroller is just to receive the parallel data through the centronics parallel connector and to send it serially to the main controller, which will do the further processing.

It can not be done that simply.
Parallel communication between printer and PC is accomplished with a number of control signals including Strobe, Busy, Ack, etc. Printer should respond to the signals from PC appropriately.

Almost any micro with enough IO would be up to such task. Do you have access to a programmer of some sort. Or do you plan to get one. As this will decide which brand of controller you can use
