I am trying to imagine how anything aside from a very direct inspection could detect my Lexan knife. It has no metallic or ceramic parts at all.
As for preventing injuries from a knife attack, the USMC teaches a number of ways that can be done. They teach other stuff as well, in infantry school. (not what they call it.)
