Power in my area is underground. I am concerned about power loss, but there is little I can do.

I have a few UPSes here and there, but nothing that would replace power.

 

Bill, I've seen the videos of tractor trailers being tossed around in the air.
Shouldn't you be protecting yourself underground somewhere instead of sending us live coverage?

Isn't that better so wind doesn't knock it out. When we got hit by a hurricane a couple years back the cable lines were underground so they never went out.Power was on poles so it was out as soon as winds hit 70mph. Came back on 17 days later.

 

I was in that storm of the century that went across the tornado belt in 08. Scariest thing I've ever seen. I was in Memphis at the time and 35 people there died. I'd rather go through 100 hurricanes then 1 tornado. Flippin scary as hell. The next day I left back for FL for a vacation and their were semi's on their sides in fields of the interstate with people unloading em. Trucks flipped over on the medians and you could seethe tire marks where it actually pushed the semi about 60ft before it rolled. Then its pouring rain and it quits all the sudden. All you hear is 1000's of frogs going off. Thats when you know ones close. Then the sirens go off. All the other FL employees were out playing in the street and crap. I was anchoring myself to a piller in the warehouse. SCARY>

 

I was mostly homeschooled 1st grade - 8th grade but for half a year in 5th grade & half a year in 6th grade I went to a private school in grapevine TX. in 5th grade one day I took a dump between classes & was running late. I came out of the restroom & the halls were already empty. My class was in another building, so I ran out the door into the breezeway between 2 buildings. The wind was pretty strong between the buildings, but it normally was. I ran through the breezeway and out the end, and when I rounded the corner of the building I was knocked swiftly on my ass by wind. I looked over and saw a pickup in the parking lot going sideways with no driver. I turned around and tried to walk low, on my hands & feet into the wind towards the door of the building, but the wind got under me and landed me on my ass again. I ended up crawling to the door on my belly, and as I was trying to open the door I saw the tornado come out from behind the other side of the building. A coach pushed the door open and pulled me inside. Everybody was huddled in the central hallway. The coach actually yelled at me for not responding to the PA announcement and executing the tornado procedure. I never heard any announcement. Since then I have had nightmares about tornadoes. I get one maybe once every couple of months. Usually when I see a tornado on TV or in a movie. I will probably have one tonight.

 

Ultimately all power is on poles, but it is underground for my local neighborhood. Helps with lightning too.

I will know if a twister gets close, they aren't exactly stealthy you know. I've been through this before. I have some good Tornado stories if anyone is interested, most have probably heard them already.

My home has no storm shelter, most don't. When a F5 tornado hit Jerrod about 10 years ago the only survivors were those who ran. Meanwhile meteorologists tell you to stay put. Go figure.

I have a hallway and blankets if I really need them.

I was outside looking around a few hours ago. A lightning bolt that never touched ground caused the umbrella to shock me. I may be stupid, but I got the message and went back inside. Lightning is more dangerous than twisters in most cases.

Ah, spring time in Texas!

 

If you have under ground power,you can still lose it. Sometimes for the

good of all,they will pull the plug for safety of the whole community. These

storms are close to that. Your power could still go off.

Nope. Never seen a tornado.

 

The storm gave me a chance to chop all my salad veggies,for my feta cheese

salad ,that I am eating now. What did you do while watching the reports.

 

My electronics shop survived a hurricane,the water was four feet deep for

a week. I put every thing on top of my benches and waited for the water

to go down.

 

I was standing in my front yard looking up. The sky was slightly overcast. While I watched I saw a hole open in the clouds, it looked like a picture of a hurricane. It lasted a few seconds, then went away.

The more dangerous storms are interesting. I was in the parking lot of a Walmart in Oklahoma with my mom. I saw a classic funnel with two hooks on either side. The sky had turned green, the color is distinctive. The image was 2D, no reference whatsoever of dimension. We drove out of the area pronto, since there was really no where to go, and no rain or hail.

Then there was the time we heard police in my folks small town driving around with their sirens on. Turned on the weather channel, and they were describing us! So I looked out the back sliding door, there was a really low cloud just coming over a hill several hundred yards away. It wasn't a big deal, until I saw the small cloud orbit the big low one. Then it dissipated while I watched.

Tornado's are not always obvious.

Another storm, same place, we watched the grass blowing one way, then suddenly switch direction, a classic twister signature. All the acoustic tiles in my Dad's den were lifting off their supports. I figure that one was right overhead, but not touching the ground.

You get used to it, there isn't a lot you can do most of the time.

 

We forgot about the Fox,a good name to have.

 

Tne density of the area has much more chance of lots damage to a wide

range of homes and business.

 

Guys, I'm hanging on to a pole while I type this with my tongue. You're not helping.

Seriously, I have 2 twisters within 10 miles of me, 1 within 3 miles.

I am aware, trust me.
