David, thanx for the note. I guess I didnt get enought sleep when I wrote about "patent agent" I understand if it said on this forum then it is considered "common knowledge" and it doesn't matter if it's patented especialy when I am not patenting the Joule Thief, but a larger device that may contain Joule Thief concept within.

Thank you ALL for your help, I know have multiple options to consider and downselect from depending on type of power source and cost.

If you're talking about a KM9013, yes it is an NPN transistor that can be used for amplifying. But this thread has been inactive for nearly six months, and the original poster already had a number of options to consider. Since the OP has not returned, one must assume that their question has been resolved.
