Measuring A.C voltage

This js going to be real easy for some of you advanced people but i am confused.....i have a waveform on my scope measuring very close to 3V pk to pk, yet when i measure the same point with a dvm on the A.C setting it tells me 1V?

Your meter displays the voltage in RMS, not peak-to-peak.. For a sine wave, Vp-p = Vrms * 2.828.

EDIT: corrected from 2.818 to 2.828.
