Hello,
I'm gathering components for a project and before placing and testing it on breadboard I checked all components with multimeter(possible one's). Problem is that, the 1Meg resistor is showing .311 reading on DMM when set to measure 2Meg also the resistor has gold band as the tolerance band(5%)... I think it might cause problem... Enlighten me on this.

Did you touch the resistor and pins from the DMM with your fingers?
If so, you are measuring the parallel resistance of your body and the 1 Meg resistor.

Yes i did the same way you mentioned...
Now i measured by keeping it on wooden plank and DMM shows .985
