Hello, This is homework, but I’ve done what I can and the answer is the same as the question.

Write the equation for a straight line with the following gradient and y intercept:
m=2, c=5.

y = 2x + 5.

2* -1 + 5 = 3
2 * 0 + 5 = 5
2 * 1 + 5 = 7

plot1: x = -1, y = 3.
plot2: x = 0, y = 5.
plot3: x = 1, y = 7.

draw the graph when you get here.

gradient = rise/run = 2/1 = 2.
y intercept = 5.

y = 2x + 5 … (which is also the question)

Where did I go wrong?

What is the exact question? Is it:

Write the equation for a straight line with the following gradient and y intercept:
m=2, c=5.
or

Write the equation for a straight line with the following gradient and y intercept:
m=2, c=5.

y = 2x + 5.
or something else.

The exact question is your first choice,
then the next line is me dropping the known vars into the form y = mx + c (or could be known as y = mx + b).

MrChips, I don’t think the answer should be the same as the question.
If it is, I hope the whole course is like that. I’ll be taking a year long holiday.

We have not seen the question.
Perhaps this is the question:
Write the equation for a straight line with the following gradient and y intercept:
m=2, c=5.
Sounds like a reasonable question to ask for a beginning math/calculus class.

So how is the answer the same as the question?????

Your answer appears to be

y = 2x + 5

and we've established that this is NOT part of the question.
