Hey guys. I only used this tool about 4 times till is started buzzing quite loud and had no speed control. I don't think the motor was spinning. I seem to be just vibrating violently to the 60Hz AC. Found that the triac shorted. My question is that even with a shorted triac, wouldn't the unit just run a full speed since it appears to have a universal motor? I'm wondering why it died so fast. Could there be something wrong with the motor? I replaced the triac and it seems to be running. The motor spins and have speed control. I have not used it on anything yet to really test it. What is the triac rated? What is the amp draw of the motor?

The triac is rated at 6A. The tool is rated at 2.5A. But the triac has no heatsink on it. I'm going to get a watt meter and see what it draws.
