Almost all street maps in the US has been on the internet since the beginning. It didn't occur to me how valuable a sidewalk map could be. Not just for this drone usage......but wheelchair auto pilots and blind people's headsets. Digital Pedestrian maps.
With satellite gps, and all of our pedestrian and air drone maps........we might soon have neighborhood 3D maps. Utility lines, tree limbs and all. It might even alert the user looking at the map........that they are about to walk into a fountain.
There will probably be IC chips.....that you plug in a few sensors....an ant....batt.....and the chip will not only know where it is ....but also it's velocity. Location self awareness. The chip would be just a smart transducer........the memory and brain would be on a cloud. Or on your desktop.
