Hello
I'm a newbie to electronics. Self taught and with some help from others where needed. I'm looking for some sort of software for schematics. Im not designing anything but I like the idea that I see being done on YouTube where they have the schematic and can highlight there traces or repaired. I'd prefer being able to upload my own factory schematic for my dut or be able to download one instead of marking up the original paper copy that I currently have.

so you need something to draw schematics? any CAD can do that but EDA software is what you probably want. This allows you to draw schematics and also design PCBs. not sure what you saw but there is plenty of options to choose from. i am using KiCad for past two decades. Main reason is that it is powerful and free.

one of the features is ability to generate interactive BOM such as this (i think that is what you saw). try playing with attached BOM (inside the ZIP file). clicking on anything highlights the relevant items (component, zone, track)
