For those not in the know LDO stands for Low Drop Out, Most older regulator types soak 3 or so volts to power their internal circuitry, LDO types don't.

What I need is a simple 3 terminal voltage regulator family that will pass through the power supply voltage even if the input voltage is too low. I need 5V and 12V respectively. One that doesn't oscillate like older types would be great. I also want a small package if I can get it. Hey, It never hurts to ask.

Hello,

You could have a look at the LD1117 adjustable.
It works like the LM317, but with a drop-out voltage of about 1 Volt.

I have attached the datasheet of the full series.

yeah...1117 is kind of the go to for lots of people. If you need 12, though, then be aware that the 1117 does not go past an 18V input....at least from the vendors I use.

No prob 18Vis good, I also like the 10uF filtering cap. Does it also need the 10ma through R1 like the LM317?
