Looking for a socket and a jack with 3-pins/wire for low voltage application

Hi everyone!

I have a project where I have to use IR proximity sensor (Sharp 2Y0A02) externally and separately from the main box. The IR sensor needs 3 wires to connect - negative, positive and a "data" wire. I've been trying to find a socket and a jack that provide 3 wires for connection - not pins for connecting to the PCB but actual wires. No luck so far.

There are tons with two (pos and neg) but seeing only either large audio connectors or those 120V computer-type sockets. I am looking for something smaller which are mountable to the small project box, visually pleasing and does not take up more space than the IR sensor itself. Something like standard 5.5mm or 3.5mm DC power socket/jack are a good visual reference - but with 3 pins.

I know, I know.. maybe I want a bit too much but wanted to make sure there is nothing readily available before I start to get creative - like maybe using 3.5mm stereo sockets which maybe my only option if I cant find anything else.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Search Digikey, they have just about any type of connector you would need.
Max.
Thanks Max! I've briefly tried to look for something but there are too many options on how and where I could potentially find it. Unfortunately so far I did not see anything that would satisfy. It's getting late and possibly I am not able to think straight anymore. I will try to take a look in the morning with a fresh start.

Not sure of the particulars, but one might consider shielded cable.
These also not exactly what I was looking for but gave me some alternative ideas. Not ideal but at least something I may be able to live with. Instead of having a socket attached to the project box I'll just have a wire with a connector and connect it somewhere else.

This may do it I think. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FU6BBKG/ref=twister_B01FU6BBJM Its a bulky one too but I should be able to hide it.

Thanks!

Search for hobby servo extension wires, M to F. Cut one in two. Hard wire the cut ends to the devices and use the terminated ends as a plug. I’ve done this many times. Even superglued multiple connectors together to get a 6,9,12... pin connector.

Hmm, this is actually an even better option. Do you know if these are interchangeable with dupont connectors?

They are the same pin spacing. I think they are just labeled that way because some people are building models and look for the name.

Have you considered JST connectors? They have latching either passive or with locks.

These are PCB mount, and you can get inline versions with lock tabs:

Nope, that did not cross my eye but they would work probably as well. They are similar to servo connectors but unfortunately I've already got the servo ones. Thanks for the tip though. Good to know all options.

What would be wrong with those for the job?
Nothing wrong theoretically. It's only bunch of wires being connected after all. It still just does not feel right (or weird), maybe just for the reason that @Yaakov brought up... especially when other options are available.
