logic of reversed diode structure

Hello,J3 is supposed to be a pulse of 0-3.3 V which goes into hex inverter.
In the sturcture below they put diode with resistor in paralel.
For what purpose is it so i could simulate the effect.

Who knows what it's purpose is?

Without knowing what the purpose of the circuit it, how can you reasonably expect people to know what the purpose of the components within the circuit are?

It might be there in case the input is put in backwards. It might be there to clamp the input signal.

Yes its for signal goes backwards, this is the purpose.
How to know what is the proper resistor value for this purpose?
