Would i be able to replace a 1100mAh, 3.6V, Li-ion with a 900 mAh, BMC-3, 3.6V, Ni-MH battery in a Nokia 3310?

Would there eg. be problems with charging with the "old" charger (for the Ni-MH)?

 

This is not a good idea because the charging requirements of Li-ion and Ni-MH are different : Li-ion is constant voltage and Ni-MH is constant current.

The charger circuit is inside the phone, not inside the "charger". The "charger" is simply a power supply for the charger circuit inside the phone.

I've never seen a consumer product where you can swap in Li-Ion for Ni-MH. The charging hardware would have to be very complex and be able to "recognize" the battery type based on memory devices in the battery pack and then accomodate it by changing the charging algorithms.

When I worked in the IC industry, some makers talked about maybe doing that but the cost was prohibitive. I've never seen a consumer product with such a charger built in.
