Ldr array for a light synthisizer

I was thinking about using an array of ten 10k-500k ohm ldrs to create a variable resistance .

I connected these in the arrangement shown in the pictures attached. But these create a very small variance in resistance when they are covered one by one . I was hoping in a more significant variance since i wish to use them to create different frequencies which i will later modulate. I want stepped values of resistance


Im not intrested in the value of the final total resistance since i can always work around that .
