Larger scale dog pacifier using ultrasound

Hello

Is there anybody who could help with designing a more powerful ultrasound dog anti barking device ? I have no qualifications in electronics, but my idea was to start with one of the units one can buy online as a base, amplify the signal and use a more powerful speaker. That way most of the electronics is already in place , even the part that recognizes the sound of barking dogs and triggers the ultrasound. This idea is probably complete bollocks but maybe not. Otherwise I would appreciate if somebody could help with building such a device from scratch.
The range needs to be at least 200 meters.
Many thanks
John

I'll pass.

200 meters!! Have you thought about the unnecessary disruption to other neighbors and their pets? What dogs can hear, cats can also likely hear and cats aren't the source of your problem.

Why not talk to your neighbors? Or report them to animal control (after documenting the noise nuisance)?

Even in my rural neighborhood, dog barking ordinances still apply.

With that kind of range, you risk harming dogs (and others) that are at much closer distances that that far distance dog you are concerned about.

Put the shoe on the other foot. If you had a dog that was well behaved and your neighbor had a dog that was always barking, would you appreciate someone 200 m away subjecting your dog to that just because the dog next door was barking? Plus, if multiple dogs are getting subjected to that even when they aren't barking (including the one that you are trying to deal with), what's the chances that they are actually going to associated the discomfort with their barking?

Even beyond the valid comments so far is the very real probability of damaging people's hearing with that high a sound level. And while folks would feel the pain they would not realize where to get away from it.
AND, if somebody DID realize what you were doing, you might get a really nasty response. Many years ago I tried using a manual tire pump to blow an ultrasonic dog whistle, as an attempt to stop the dog next door from barking. My sister immediatly screamed as it hurt her ears terribly. I was not able to hear it more than very slightly.

As I revisited this request, it is clear that 200 meters is about 600 feet, or so. At that distance a dog barking should not be very loud.
So any sound produced that would even get a dog's attention at that distance WILL CERTAINLY DAMAGE THE HEARING OF THOSE PEOPLE NEARBY!!
So the TS is requesting instructions for producing a very dangerous device!! I would classify it as A REAL WEAPON!!!

Here is a question that is rather more fundamental to the whole concept od the requested device: WHAT is the basis for believing that a powerful blast of high frequency sound would have a calming effect on a dog??
IN FACT, WHAT exactly does the TS mean by the word "Pacify"??? I am aware of the meanings presented in the most commoly accepted dictionaries, but I am having a difficult time trying to relate that to what I anticipate would be inflicting a fair amount of discomfort on an unfamiliar dog.

IN ADDITION, I would remind the TS that although I could not hear the sound, I CERTAINLY COULD feel the damage being done to my hearing.
Has the TS even considered that such a sound intensity at a closer distance will also damage the hearing of all within that area?? That includes both humans and animals.
Consider that if the sound is to be between 75 decibels and 80 dB at 600 feet, it would be well over 100dB at 20 to 50 feet. Or even louder!

Breakfast today: a bowl of Cheerios with some pedantics sprinkled on top.

75 Decibels and 80 Db
dB, not Db
decibel, not Decibel

Because the bel is derived from a real person's name, it follows the SI rules. When abbreviated, the first letter is capitalized: V for volt, mV for millivolt, B for bel, dB for decibel. When the term is spelled out, it is not capitalized: volt, ampere, bel. Because the multiplier is less than one, it is not capitalized: m for milli, M for mega. Of course there are exceptions, but them's the basics.

Looooong form: https://www.bipm.org/documents/d/guest/si-brochure-9-en-pdf

I love a bit of pedanticism (?) in the morning.

Certainly, If you say so! I can accept valid corrections. It was quite late as I was reading the thread.
Can you give us any opinion about the contents of the thread's comments???

Already did. The idea is so dangerous that it is a military weapon. And I agree, howling in pain is not a very good definition of pacifying.

I think that I recall that at one time "sonic warfare" was claimed to be against the Geneva Cinvention. Certainly SONIC warfare, from what I have read, is routinely deployed against North Korea, at some border location. It Was PLaying "Highway To Hell" at over 100dB , based on the writing, as I recall.
Certainly nasty, but not nearly as offensive as naplam!!
