No sure what JVC might have been up to in the early '90s. Their K2 technology in cd players got some decent praise in HiFi News and Stereophile magazines.

... we can see some of what's goin' on ....
JVC XL-Z1050 (1992) decoder dsp --> JCE4300 [mystery chip] ->> YM3414 [digital filter] ->> JCE4501 [dac]
JVC XL-Z674 (1994) decoder dsp --> JCE4300 [mystery chip] ->> MN35502 [df+dac] -
The mystery chip, JCE4300, is placed right after the decoder chip.
The service manuals for various JVC cdp's only give very sketchy details about this 20-pin "Gate Array for K2 Interface". Obfuscation? Methinks it's a 74-style logic chip being used to re-clock the I2S lines. Typical practice. But, then again, it is a 20-pin device, maybe like: SN74AS804BN.
So ... Not sure what JVC is up to ... anyone care to guess?
