Is this diode disguised as a capacitor?

Is this diode disguised as a capacitor? Do diodes often look like that? If it didn't say D1 next to it, I'd have figured it's a capacitor. Can we please have more consistent looking components? Thanks!

The picture has poor resolution so it is difficult to see the details.
It appears to have a darker stripe at the left end which might be the polarity marking of a diode.
Sometimes changes to a product design may replace one component type with another without changing the PCB so the component ID may not be reliable.

If it is a diode then there would be some polarity indication but there is nothing visible in the improved picture so, unless you can see something with magnifier and eye then it isn't a diode.
But, in that case, I don't know what it is - capacitor, inductor, or even maybe resistor or fuse.
