Is it possible to use two stepper drivers on one motor?

Sorry, total noob question.

Project idea: I want to be able to send a command via Alexa to a Nano which causes a stepper to turn a half turn clockwise and stop. Then I want to send a separate command that will cause the same motor to turn a half turn counterclockwise and stop.

Can this be done with one Arduino Nano and one stepper motor? i.e can the motor phase be wired in a way that doesn't short the system? If so how please?

By using the correct thing to do it. This is better done with a stepper motor drive module in the mix. I'm not smart enough to know if the micro controller will work, but do know that a dedicated stepper motor module will do it, that's what they are made to do. and they are now days very inexpensive.
