IR sensor relocation

Hello all. I am working with an FM/Bluetooth board that has an IR sensor on it. I want to remove it and relocate with about 6 inches of jumpers. When I do this, the sensor works very intermittently. There are no obstacles impeding it. What adverse effect is happening here and how can it be mitigated? Thanks in advance.

You may have an intermittent connection, either in the wires, or in the sensor device itself, from the stress of removing it. OR it may be aiming in the wrong direction part of the time. It may also be an intermittent fault at the sensor connection. Such as an occasional shorted circuit.
How good is your wiring technique??

Thanks. The soldering is tidy and secure as are the jumper wires.

There may be a noise voltage being picked up on those wires. Probably the sensor circuit is a high impedance circuit , making it sensitive to noise.
