Hi all.. I and my friends are in a project work and the aim of our work is to develop an intelligent system to prevent deforestation. The main idea is to pass messages to the forest office whenever a tree fall or tree cutting is detected. Zigbee mesh network is used for the purpose of communication. Sounds produced during the cutting of trees using axes, saws would be recorded initially and whenever a sound similar to that is detected the message will pass to the forest office. We also used an accelerometer to detect falling of trees. PIR sensor is used to detect the people coming in the vicinity of protected trees. We have created a page using Visual Basic and all the messages can monitor through the PC placing at the forest office. Up to this we have developed and we have ordered metal cases in Bayview metals http://www.bayviewmetals.com/industries-served/electronics-manufacturers/. But we have a concern that will the system work well when it is placed in a metal case? Do you have any other suggestions? We configured everything to send the message if any people come near to protected area. But we are not getting any idea how to distinguish between an authorized and unauthorized man coming in such areas. If you have some ideas please share it with us.

It should work as long as the antenna is mounted outside the case.. There is not real way of auto detection from friend or foe that I am where of ... Most military use similar setup and they just sent someone to check it out when a alert happens .. You could keep a paper or electronic logs of personnel movements within the areas.. Have you consider aniamls triggering the setup or destroying the units???
