Can you provide a bit more detail on your application? (e.g. distance between transmitter and receiver, data to be sent via the link, data-speed and any other requirements you might think of like available power source)

there will be almost 1 meter between tranmitter and reciever..data will be sent via fiber optic cable...and will be fed by battery

 

You don't need IR for that - any LED will work. Use a blue LED and use less power. Grab a TAOS light-to-voltage converter for the receiver.

Will you be sending data in one direction only or does the data need to flow in both directions?

Take a look at an IRDA transceiver. These devices are available from Digi-key and other suppliers as well.
