Hi All,
Is there anyways I can easily mod a DC Motor Controller to allow higher voltage+amperage?
I have this board: https://www.cytron.io/p-30amp-5v-30v-dc-motor-driver

There is another board by them that goes up to 45v, but I need to run 12s 48v.
Can I just replace the mosfets and cap on the board?

Probably not easy to upgrade it. The MOSFETs that are on that board probably have a maximum voltage rating, likely something like 40V (for a 30V maximum rating). You would probably have to replace all the MOSFET chips. If you can do that, then you have to check the gate voltages. Your current board may be driving the gate between 10V-20V. Increasing the overall voltage may also increase the gate voltages. That means you may have to change gate resistors as well.

It's one of those cheap Chinese board, but it allows some nice specs.

One issue for me is that it has an extremely soft start. I'm aware of the amp draw without it, but is there a way to disable that?

 

That device seems to meet your requirements.... 55V maximum, 40A continuous.

 

It has a very soft start. Do you think if there's any way to eliminate that? It has a 555 timer on it.

Unfortunately, you can't modify it so easily. The parameters of the controller depend on the parameters of power switches (MOSFET). To increase voltage you have to replace all MOSFET switches and also over-voltage protection circuits if there are any on the board. To increase amperage you will also need to replace the transistors and, in some cases, install additional radiators.

There are plenty of serious 12S ESCs that run "BL-Heli" Software which
lets You change an absolutely crazy amount of
parameters with a nice USB-Windows-Interface.

It sounds like you want to find out just how much
smoke You can make in less than 60-Seconds.

Reliable 12S Motors are never cheap,
why would You want to risk smoking them ?

Stick by all the manufacturers recommendations, or pay the price.
