I'm looking at an IC marked 3914 Any ideas?

There are a few on the surplus market, but you can make one out of ten comparators (two and a half LM339s) and 11 resistors, and it will probably turn out cheaper.

It’s ironic that That’s how it was done before National invented the LM3914, and now it’s been discontinued so we are back to the LM339 and resistors.

That's a good point. It's interesting how older solutions often become relevant again when dedicated ICs are discontinued. Sometimes the classic approach is still the most practical.

Digi-Key shows the surface mount version out of stock, but available.

The 3914 is a linear display driver. That is, the voltage increment for each display step is the same. This makes the 3914 relatively easy to emulate with more discrete components. Not true for the 3915 and 3916, which have two different logarithmic displays.

Thank you all. I just discovered I omitted a word in the title 'AT". I'm looking AT an IC marked 3914. I wanted to see a data sheet on the device. Thank you again, I have what I wanted.
