I see stupid people everywhere I look....
Is there an app for ignoring them? Somebody needs to get right on that.

I think I actually went to high school with one of them. :)

My ignore button is the wheel on the mouse ... scroll right on by, no need to subcontract out that task to the software.
Yup, that works for me about 99% of the time. About the only time it doesn't is when I encounter some fool who clearly knows a LOT less about electronics than he thinks he knows handing out atrociously bad advice to a newbie. That's hard to ignore; people come to AAC for information, not misinformation.

What I would find a lot more useful than the "ignore everything from this user" function would be an "ignore this thread" function that I could use to de-clutter the "New Posts" list (my usual way of accessing content here) by getting rid of uninteresting threads-- especially the ones that have degenerated into pointless, "death match" debates.

That would be something worth having; the "ignore this user" function is not-- at least, not for me.

Either you agree or dis-agree? If more people hit agree then the OP would have a choice, then they ignore misinformation.

Having a like button just doesn't cover enough conditions.

It exists. It is jusg above the first post on each page on the right side. It says, "Unwatch this thread". Click and you will stop receiving notifications until you make another post on the thread or click "Watch this thread".

That would certainly work if I used the "watch" function; but I don't, so I don't get an option to "un-watch" threads.

I turned off all notices from threads. my icon appears in threads I had responded to, so I know what I've commented on. The others, like my internal ignore function, is handled in the title. The exception being in the homework and repair areas. When I venture into the other sections, the mouse wheel works just fine.

I use to read 1800 wpm the last time I measured it years ago (1980). Speed reading until the mental BS Detector sounds General Quarters, works pretty good.

I have sympathy with the moderator staff who must, by their volunteer job description, must read every thread. That is a thankless job.

I am powerless over political threads, and my life is still manageable.:D
Life shouldn't be "manageable". It should be enjoyable. Someone moved your cheese and the pieces you have left are getting dry and moldy. Get out and find some new cheese - enjoy your life.

I like your first step better.

I'm pretty sure that won't have the affect he was looking for, which is to make "ignored" threads not show up in the New Posts or Today's Posts lists.

Yes you do... once you reply to a thread, you're automatically subscribed to its alerts (depending on your profile default config too) and therefore your watch list is updated to include that thread.

Once that happens, the "unwatch thread" option at the top right of the page of the thread goes active.

The only alerts I have enabled are for when someone quotes me or tags me; all the rest are disabled, as is the "automatically watch threads I reply to" option. I have no "watch list" and I do not use the "watch" function.

As I said: even if I used the "watch" function (which I don't) and could therefore "unwatch" them, that still would not keep them from showing up in the New Posts or Today's Posts lists, which are my preferred way of accessing content here. And it is those lists which I would like to be able to de-clutter with some kind of "ignore this thread" option, to make uninteresting content disappear.

Exactly. Thank you.

Interesting... it seems that I misunderstood you the first time around...
So what you want is a feature that would de-list uninteresting threads on each forum, is that correct? That would indeed be a welcome addition for me too.

Yes, just as I described in Post #24:
