+ My thoughts exactly! My ignore button is the wheel on the mouse ... scroll right on by, no need to subcontract out that task to the software.
Yup, that works for me about 99% of the time. About the only time it doesn't is when I encounter some fool who clearly knows a LOT less about electronics than he thinks he knows handing out atrociously bad advice to a newbie. That's hard to ignore; people come to AAC for information, not misinformation. My ignore button is the wheel on the mouse ... scroll right on by, no need to subcontract out that task to the software.
It exists. It is jusg above the first post on each page on the right side. It says, "Unwatch this thread". Click and you will stop receiving notifications until you make another post on the thread or click "Watch this thread".Yup, that works for me about 99% of the time. What I would find a lot more useful than the "ignore everything from this user" function would be an "ignore this thread" function that I could use to de-clutter the "New Posts" list (my usual way of accessing content here) by getting rid of uninteresting threads-- especially the ones that have degenerated into pointless, "death match" debates.
That would be something worth having; the "ignore this user" function is not-- at least, not for me.
I agree, having only the like button doesn't cover everything.Having a like button just doesn't cover enough conditions.
kv
That would certainly work if I used the "watch" function; but I don't, so I don't get an option to "un-watch" threads. It exists. It is jusg above the first post on each page on the right side. I turned off all notices from threads. my icon appears in threads I had responded to, so I know what I've commented on. The others, like my internal ignore function, is handled in the title. The exception being in the homework and repair areas. When I venture into the other sections, the mouse wheel works just fine.
I am powerless over political threads, and my life is still manageable.By the way, I'm thinking of starting a 12-step program for those addicted to political threads. I get my two-week chip soon.
Life shouldn't be "manageable". It should be enjoyable. Someone moved your cheese and the pieces you have left are getting dry and moldy. Get out and find some new cheese - enjoy your life.I am powerless over political threads, and my life is still manageable.![]()
I like your first step better.Life shouldn't be "manageable". It should be enjoyable. Someone moved your cheese and the pieces you have left are getting dry and moldy. Get out and find some new cheese - enjoy your life.
I'm pretty sure that won't have the affect he was looking for, which is to make "ignored" threads not show up in the New Posts or Today's Posts lists. It exists. It is jusg above the first post on each page on the right side. It says, "Unwatch this thread". Click and you will stop receiving notifications until you make another post on the thread or click "Watch this thread".
Yes you do... once you reply to a thread, you're automatically subscribed to its alerts (depending on your profile default config too) and therefore your watch list is updated to include that thread. That would certainly work if I used the "watch" function; but I don't, so I don't get an option to "un-watch" threads.
The only alerts I have enabled are for when someone quotes me or tags me; all the rest are disabled, as is the "automatically watch threads I reply to" option. I have no "watch list" and I do not use the "watch" function.Yes you do... once you reply to a thread, you're automatically subscribed to its alerts (depending on your profile default config too) and therefore your watch list is updated to include that thread.
As I said: even if I used the "watch" function (which I don't) and could therefore "unwatch" them, that still would not keep them from showing up in the New Posts or Today's Posts lists, which are my preferred way of accessing content here. And it is those lists which I would like to be able to de-clutter with some kind of "ignore this thread" option, to make uninteresting content disappear.Once that happens, the "unwatch thread" option at the top right of the page of the thread goes active.
Exactly. Thank you.I'm pretty sure that won't have the affect he was looking for, which is to make "ignored" threads not show up in the New Posts or Today's Posts lists.
On the political thread, a 5 stages option is what I'm using. I've gone through the first four and am now in the fifth. DJT is the savior of the US.By the way, I'm thinking of starting a 12-step program for those addicted to political threads. I get my two-week chip soon.
Interesting... it seems that I misunderstood you the first time around...The only alerts I have enabled are for when someone quotes me or tags me; all the rest are disabled, as is the "automatically watch threads I reply to" option. I have no "watch list" and I do not use the "watch" function.

Yes, just as I described in Post #24:So what you want is a feature that would de-list uninteresting threads on each forum, is that correct?

I think our forefathers would have been proud. I don't think we spend enough time bantering these day's and it's a cost on the country in many way's.I am powerless over political threads, and my life is still manageable.![]()
I finally understand what you're saying... a "Get this thread out of my sight, permanently" button besides each thread title in the forum list would be in order.Yes, just as I described in Post #24:
