If I slide the off/on/pair switch on my BT headphones to off, are the headphones truly off, or doing something in the background?

If I slide the off/on/pair switch on my BT headphones to off, are the headphones truly off, or doing something in the background?

Through a conductor is in the off position it is truly off. Nothing happening in the background. But I have been known to wear an aluminum foil hat. Just in case.:)

If in wired mode they stop everything, including noise cancellation, instantly. If in wireless mode they play some tones then stop everything.
