As said, it looks like an optical mouse with bluetooth.
You will need a bluetooth connection to be able to work with it.

The connect button suggests a more general Wi-Fi type - those usually have a matched dongle.

The £ shop here does a Bluetooth dongle for £1, so checking that shouldn't be spendy.
