Identify Pins on Salvaged Audio Jacks

Hoping somebody has experience in salvaging audio jacks from electronics for reuse.

Need to identify the connection pins on on these two jacks. I can only assume they are stereo and not mono.

The jack with four pins has in input for Mic and output for Headphones. It has four pins on the back. This was salvage from a PC.

Just guessing that there is a left and right and then ground/common that they share.

This one was salvaged from a CD\ROM Drive as a headphone jack.

Has only three pins.

Help would be appreciated to identify connections for reuse in a DIY project. Would be great to be able to reuse instead of having to order one and wait for it in the mail.

Thanks,

Simple.

Get a stereo plug and get at the contacts by unscrewing the cover.

Use an ohmmeter to test for continuity between the plug and jack contacts.
Some jacks have a normally-close switch that opens when the plug is inserted into the jack. Test for this also.

If it is a mono jack, use a mono plug.

The pink socket (for microphone) was normally mono and the green (headphones) stereo. 4 pins would probably therefore indicate 2 pins for L/R signals, 1 pin mono signal and 1 pin for common ground. Using a DMM and inserting a stereo jack as described by MrChips into the green socket will quickly help you identify the L, R & (common) Ground pins (for the green headphone jack). By process of elimination, the remaining pin should be the mono signal connection

Thanks for the SUPER Simple solution. Wish I had thought of that!
