Identify a potentiometer.

I can't be sure of the resistance without taking it out, but the left side is shorted and the right side as well as both sides reads 5K.
It's single turn and the shaft is 6mm.

It is definitely a low power device. "Left side is shorted" does not tell me much. Measure the resistance between the two outide connections with the shaft in several positions. If it stays around 5K then that is a good guess. And then for a test to see if it is OK, measure the resistance between the center terminal and one side, and watch as you rotate it. If the resistance changes smoothly testing from both ends, then it is probably OK.

If left side is shorted and right side measures the same as the track, then that tells me one thing: It is rotated fully anticlockwise.

I presented a reliable test that will verify correct functioning in post #7. AND since the TS already has a meter able to measure resistance, that test is possible.
It is not a test for linearity, nor accuracy. BUT it will verify correct operation.
