hi. im putting together a self lighting bulb, mainly from my bits box, i had a 12 volt led car sidelight. and powered it with 4 button cells.it lights quite brightly,and only needs to be on for a few minutes.
unfortunately, most of the light is directed out the top.which of course i should have expected,
i have been left behind in the recent developements in LEDs,i'm wondering if there might be something less directional (and not too pricey.)than the normal led.
i would have prefered a filament bulb , but the battery has to fit in the bayonet cap.

the red mess is from my marker pen which i used to indicate pos.

missing some scale.
the black componant is a position switch. but i have deciced to use a micro reed sw and magnet instead .

the led dosen't look too bad in the pic....

You could try using 3 surface mount LED's, mounted in a triangle.
What button cells are you using?

Maybe even take a grinder to it, to take off the lens.

i am using 4x3volt button cells, just to suit the led really.
i thought of putting some sort of reflector at the top of the bulb envelope , but the only access is through the base- about 12 mm

i have seen mains led bulbs with like an led cord.

 

sorted i think, how about a combination of the two,-
4 wide angle leds horizontally in a circle, and grind the lenses flat.
i should be able to keep the 12 volt holder as is and chain the leds.
i might be pushing it a bit with the button cells, 60ma? but i should be able
to get the larger coin cells in if needed.
i could get a li-on cell in, but ive had a bad experience with one of these...
any thoughts welcome.

Re post # 6; the reflector is held by a plastic tube illuminated with 6 SM LED's.
Might check: Phillips Lumiled, LXH8-PW 30, warm white, SM, 150 L, 2.8 V @ 100 mA, 120 deg. Both contacts are on one end, heat sink on opposite end.
