ICSP Confusion Pins With Different Names !

Hello everyone,

Wondering if someone can help me here.

I have a board that has a 6 pin ICSP dip plug on it. Board is a brick.

I need to see if I can wake the chip up. I have a Canakit R1301 pic programmer. It has a 6 pin SIP on it.

Like the pinouts here :

It is not clear to me if I can connect one to the other since they both list different pin names ?

Thanks !

What is the chip that is being programmed on the brick?

Connecting two incompatible ICSPs could cause damage - for instance Arduino ICSP uses only 5V signals whereas PIC ICSP uses 13V.

I have not connected them yet. Needed to make a cable. But I think you have given me my answer which is the two are not compatible? :)

The board I need to test has an ATMega2560. It has a 6 pin dip with ICSP on it. I can see the confusion now. The Pic programmer I have has the SIP 6 pin header coming out also marked ICSP but it makes sense that this is not compatible. I will go ahead and find the appropriate dongle / ICSP programming gadget to solve this problem.

Thanks for the help !

Welcome to AAC

We really need to know what chip you are trying to program.
The 6th pin cannot always be ignored:

Sorry, we cross posted.
